Jiang Qian Qian
Calligraphy of the Chinese name that was given to me by my orphanage, 江茜茜 Jiang Qiàn Qiàn.
江 Jiang means “river” and was the last name given to everyone who entered the orphanage that year.
茜 Qiàn is a type of grass that can be processed to produce red dye. It also refers to the color alizarin red, which symbolizes good luck, happiness, beauty, and success in Chinese culture.
For this personal project, I was deeply inspired by the opening shot of Mulan (1998).
I think it beautifully captures the calligraphy ink bleeding.
